CP Belarus Statement
Press Release by the Communist Party of Belarus
In Minsk [Belarus] the 9th international meeting of communist and workers’ parties has been successfully concluded. Organizers of the meeting were the Communist Party of Belarus and the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. This important event for the international communist and workers’ party’s movement was held with the general theme: “90th anniversary of the October Revolution: The relevance and validity of its ideals. The communists in the struggle against imperialism, for socialism.”
Parties Participated
The President of Belarus, Alexandr Lukashenko sent a message of greetings to the participants of the meeting.
In the meeting 154 representatives of 72 communist and workers’ parties participated, representing 59 countries and five continents.
Among the participants were leading figures of the parties, members of the secretariat and of the central committee, representatives of the international departments , members of the national parliaments, prominent scientists, governmental and social figures.
A number of parties, unable to send their representative to Minsk, sent written contributions.
The representatives of the parties agreed on a common statement highlighting that in the contemporary world the ideas of October 1917 are more relevant than ever before.
The meeting provided an excellent opportunity for an exchange of opinions and information on key issues for the international communist and workers’ parties movement of today. The participants in the meeting referred to the actual social and economic situation in the world as well as in their own countries. They stressed the need further to coordinate the action and the development of the mutual solidarity movement.
The participants vehemently rejected the anticommunist campaigns and the attempts to distort the historical truth.
The representatives of the communist and workers’ parties expressed their readiness to support the following common initiatives.
The commemoration of the 190th anniversary of the birth of Karl Marx and of the 160th anniversary of the “Communist Manifesto” in 2008 to carry out a meeting on the popularization of the Marxist ideas among the young people.
Action against anticommunism, against the ban of communist parties and youth organizations, against the imprisonment of communist fighters. Setting up of a data bank to collect any relevant information and action.
Fight against the attempts to distort and rewrite history, against the rehabilitation of fascism.
Development of the solidarity movement with the struggles in defense of the labor relations. Coordination of the demands and actions defending the foreign workers and immigrants.
Action in promoting the democratic rights and freedoms for the working people, against the persecution and criminalization of political and trade union action.
Action promoting the active involvement in the movements of solidarity of prominent social and political figures, of scientists and of representatives of the intellectual and cultural life with the aim their engagement in the movement in defense of the communist and workers’ movement.
Common initiatives against such summits as G8, WTO, EU and NATO. Action demanding the withdrawal of all foreign troupes from Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries. For the dissolution of NATO and the withdrawal of all foreign military bases.
For peaceful solution of the ethnic crises, including the one in Darfur.
Action for worldwide development of the solidarity movement with the struggle for national rights , including the right of establishing of an independent state, for ending the oppression against the Palestinian people, and for the liberation of the arrested Palestinian citizens.
Solidarity with socialist Cuba, action aiming at lifting the blockade, the liberation of the 5 Cuban patriots jailed in the US and the abolishment of the common position of EU towards Cuba.
Solidarity with the Bolivarian process in Venezuela and support for the progressive changes occurred in Bolivia, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina.
Solidarity with the countries fighting against the imperialist policy, for an independent development serving the popular demands.
Actions in support of the fight of the Korean people.
Fight against the plan for a “wider Middle-East”, resolute rejection of the war preparations against Iran under the pretext of exporting the “US democracy”.
Support for the thematically, regional and interregional meetings and other common initiatives by the communist parties.
Support for the European campaign on issues related to education.
Active support to the initiatives promoted by the international, democratic, anti-imperialist organizations of the working movement, women, youth and students, of the fighters for peace.
The participants to the meeting were briefed on the social, economic and political situation in Belarus and visited a number of industrial and agricultural enterprises.
